PEI restaurants incentivizing diners with major discount promotion.
The launch of a new PEI restaurant dine-in promotion was announced today by the Prince Edward Island Restaurant Association.
The promotion is scheduled to run for two weeks Sunday through Wednesday at participating Island restaurants starting Sunday, March 21st running until March 31st, or while campaign funds last.
PEI dine-in customers will receive a 50 percent discount on food and non-alcoholic beverage purchases to a maximum of $15 per customer on each visit. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are all included.
This new promotion is a partnership between the PEI Restaurant Association, Canada’s Food Island, and Tourism PEI, who is the major funding sponsor.
Carl Nicholson, President of the association, says that the new promotion is a win-win for both diners and the Island’s restaurant industry. “This was a suggestion from our Full-Service Dining membership. Given the tough times that Full-Service dine in restaurants have had on P.E.I. with the many COVID19 mandated closures of dining rooms in the past ten months, combined with a major decrease in out-of-Province guests and decreased capacities to meet guidelines of the CPHO, our Full-Service Dining members need help.” said Nicholson.
“We are in the slow winter period for Island restaurants with dining rooms. This is made even more challenging with current travel and restaurant capacity restrictions. This promotion enables us to invite Islanders for a great, full-service dining experience at a great price, whether it is breakfast, lunch, or dinner. It also helps keep our doors open and staff employed. This year Full-service restaurants need help to stay open, and we believe this promotion will get Islanders to their favorite restaurants on what are typically very slow days, slow times and a slow month.”
The focus, says Nicholson, is on a full -service dine-in, sit-down experience. Nicholson said. “A Full-Service dining establishment in PEI is defined as one where patrons order while seated and pay after eating.” These restaurants are where the heavy lifting is in terms of staffing and they have been among the hardest hit economically by COVID19 – that’s who diners, restaurants and promotion partners will be supporting.”
The promotion does not apply to take-out, curbside, drive through or home delivery.
“The full-service restaurant industry has been one of the hardest hit during this pandemic, and they’ve been one of the quickest industries to adjust, comply and find innovative ways to adapt to the public health guidelines,” said Minister of Economic Growth, Tourism and Culture Matthew MacKay. “As Canada’s Food Island, Islanders are so fortunate to be surrounded by such an abundance of delicious food prepared and served by talented Islanders. I’m asking all Islanders to show your appreciation for our full-service restaurant industry and enjoy a meal at one of the many delicious and devoted full-service restaurants across Prince Edward Island.”
Nicholson added that safety and public health continues to be the main priority. “Since the pandemic began, the PEI restaurant industry has done a really great job responding to directives and guidance from the Chief Public Health Office. Obviously, all participating have approved restaurants health and safety operation plans. All capacity limits will continue to be respected and enforced.”
Upwards of 50 restaurants across Prince Edward Island are expected to sign on to support the promotion. A full list of participating restaurants can be found online at PEIDineandSave.ca
