I Feel Safe to Travel
Overall, feelings of safety towards travel amongst Canadian residents remained stable. After significant increases the previous week, feelings of safety towards travel amongst Manitoba, Ontario, and Quebec residents reverted to levels seen the week prior. Compared to the previous week, feelings of safety towards all travel destinations amongst Atlantic Canadian residents remained stable.
Atlantic Canadian residents’ have fallen behind Alberta residents as the most likely to feel comfortable travelling within their province in Canada:
- 79% somewhat/strongly agree that they feel safe travelling to communities near them.
o This is up from 74% the previous week but remains down from 83% during Feb. 9th.
- 68% somewhat/strongly agree that they feel safe travelling to communities within their province.
o This is up from 65% the previous week but remains down from 71% during Feb. 9th.
Level of Welcome Towards Visitors
Overall, there was an improvement in the level of welcome Canadians have towards visitors compared to the previous week. Atlantic Canadian residents continue to lead the country as the most likely to be welcoming of visitors from communities near them but are also the most likely to be unwelcoming of visitors from other parts of Canada:
- 73% of Atlantic Canadians somewhat/strongly agree with welcoming visitors from communities near them.
o This is a large jump from the 64% reported the previous week and back in line with results during the Feb. 2nd survey.
o The next closest province was Alberta at 62%.
- 57% of Atlantic Canadians somewhat/strongly agree with welcoming visitors from other parts of their province.
o This is in line with results from the previous week and remains down from 64% during the Feb. 2nd survey.
o Alberta residents passed Atlantic Canadian residents as the most likely to be welcoming of visitors from within their province this week at 60%.
Atlantic Canadian residents are very likely to be unwelcoming of visitors from outside of their province:
- 16% of Atlantic Canadians somewhat/strongly agree with welcoming visitors from other parts of Canada, while 66% somewhat/strongly disagree with welcoming visitors from other parts of Canada.
o 43% of Alberta residents stated they somewhat/strongly agree with welcoming visitors from other parts of Canada, making them the most likely to be welcoming of visitors from outside their province in Canada.
- Approximately 11% of Atlantic Canadian residents somewhat/strongly agree with welcoming visitors from the United States and other international countries, while approximately 72% strongly disagree.
